Our vow renewal is at sunset on March 21, 2025 at The Meeks in Aina Haina. Barb & Dave are flying into Oahu on March 14th (Hawaiian Air Flt 9 5:35p) and flying out on March 23rd (Hawaiian Air Flt 2 2:45p).
The vow renewal is in Aina Haina on Oahu. About 20 mins east of downtown Waikiki. Transportation from Waikiki to The Meeks will be provided. The Meeks' Home is a beautiful beach front location. The Pacific Ocean laps gently on the sand just feet from the back of the house.
Well, for most of you, Hawaii isn't a quick drive down the freeway. Dave & Barb are flying in the weekend before (March 13 Flt 9). We are planning some group activities for Weds afternoon, Thursday at sunset, Friday at Sunset & Saturday afternoon - Don't be lazy! Read the Itinerary above and check it for updates. The rest of the time you are on your own.
Our plan was to get a block of rooms at a Waikiki beach front hotel. But our 10 year anniversary is during Spring Break. The hotel didn't offer any better deals or perks than an individual booking thru Costco. And Barb and I were responsible for any cancellations for any reservations made under our group. We love you, but shit in life happens, if you get a case of pink eye and can't fly, we ain't gunna pay for your empty room. Waikiki is the central tourist destination on the Island. Every major hotel chain is on the island, so if you have a rewards program take advantage of it. We have heard from a few guests that AirBnB is a real challenge.
The Outrigger Hotel chain has about a dozen hotels in Honolulu. Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach with Duke's is right on the sand and is a great central location in Waikiki.
For group events, the bus is going to pick up all guests in front of the Outrigger Waikiki and return them there. Everything in Waikiki is within a 10 min stroll of the Outrigger.
It all depends on what you want to do... For the organized events, Barb & I will be chartering a bus to get everyone back and forth. If you want to travel the island on your own, the car rental on the island is pricey - especially during spring break. Every hotel has car rental companies in the lobbies. Do not rent a car at the hotel. Even if you don't make rental plans till you get there, book thru Costco.com for car rental. It may cost you a cab ride from your hotel to the airport to pickup your car, but the rental rates via Costco are sometimes 1/6th the price for the same company when booked in Waikiki.
It's a vacation on a tropical island. Sit on the beach, shop at some crazy fancy malls, walk the sands at sunset. Hike Diamond Head, spend the day snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, get a car and visit Waimea Falls for a swim under a waterfall. You could drive to the North Shore to see incredible surf and visit Turtle Bay or take several hours to visit Pearl Harbor. We will be adding a page to the site with a list of recommended tourist attractions.
Organized group events (are hoping to be) a visit to the Polynesian Cultural Center (no luau), a sunset Catamaran cruise (open bar), the anniversary, and an ocean-front pool party.
And, if you want to join (this means you pay for it instead of us), the itinerary is going to include a trip to the Dole Plantation with a train ride through the Pineapple Fields, a visit to the Waikiki Aquarium (with Dave as your Docent), a possible Snorkel trip to Hanauma Bay and maybe a visit to the Waikiki zoo.
These are going to be "come if you want to join" activities. They will be added to the itinerary as we finalize thing, so you can plan your vacation as you want.
